After a limited rollout earlier this month, Google has now officially announced that Gemini is making its way to Android Auto. The AI-powered assistant will be available for users who have upgraded from Google Assistant to Gemini on their phones.
With Gemini, the experience of using Android Auto will get a lot better. You can simply ask the conversational voice assistant to add stops. And when Gemini recommends a place, you can continue that conversation by asking about its most popular dishes, what the reviews say about the food, etc.
Likewise, messaging your friends or family while driving will get a lot easier, too. As Google gives an example in its blog post, you can tell Gemini, “Oops, I’m stuck in traffic. Can you let Leo know and add my ETA and a sorry emoji?” and it will perfectly execute that command. You can even ask Gemini to send follow-up texts, translated into the receiver’s preferred language.
Gemini in Android Auto can even tap into your Gmail account. Ask it to pull the hotel address from your inbox and give navigation directions.
Additionally, you can invoke Gemini Live in Android Auto as well. Just say, “Hey Google, let’s talk live” to get started. From there, you can brainstorm ideas, rehearse an important speech, or work through complex topics, while keeping your focus on the road.
Google highlighted several more ways Gemini in Android Auto can assist you:
Google says Gemini in Android Auto starts rolling out “globally today, in 45 languages.” When the AI assistant is ready to work with Android Auto, you’ll get a tooltip on your car’s infotainment system to activate it.
