Madeon introduced a new era with the release of September’s “Hi!” and last month’s headline performance at Red Rocks.
Madeon‘s new single “Car Crash Baby” will take fans back to the early 2000s, even if they were an infant at that time.
Early last month, the French artist unveiled his “new era” of sound at his momentous headline of the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. For the first time, fans at the open-air venue were able to experience his new, indie-leaning sound live.
Not long before that, Madeon shared the single “Hi!,” which gave fans a taste of his new musical direction. Now, it’s clearer than ever after the release of his latest single.
Like its predecessor, “Car Crash Baby” is vocal-heavy with a hybrid production that feels like an homage to the 2000s, as if Kasabian had made electro house with The Bloody Beetroots. Madeon’s lyrics are edgy yet personal, delivered in a way that complements the arrangement’s hard-hitting synth breakdowns.
“Car Crash Baby” calls upon the days when every indie band played DJ sets on the side with electronic artists, back when the leading names in the two genres weren’t so far apart. While many of his fans are too young to remember this period in electronic music history, they’ll appreciate the vulnerability in Madeon’s writing and the excellent production fans have come to expect from him.
