A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Kirklees.
West Yorkshire Police officers were called to a serious collision at 2.01pm in Meltham Mills Road, Meltham after a vehicle mowed down a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man has been arrested in connection with the crash. Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the road remains closed.
A spokesperson for the force said: "At 2.01pm officers were called to Meltham Mills Road to reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. A man who was the pedestrian sadly was pronounced dead at the scene.
"A man has been arrested in connection with the collision. The road remains closed and we’re asking motorists to avoid the area."
