For the second time in three years, Lance Dewease is on the move. The 60-year-old informed FloRacing on Friday that he’s joining the Rich Eichelberger-owned No. 8 team for the 2026 Sprint Car season in Central Pennsylvania, therefore ending his two-year stint with the Barry and Brent Shearer-owned No. 12 team.
The Fayetteville, Pa., veteran takes over the Eichelberger-owned ride vacated by Brock Zearfoss, who only spent one season with the 75-year-old car owner — a year the former World of Outlaws campaigner notched two victories in Sept. 1’s 74th annual Labor Day Classic at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway and Sept. 12’s Billy Kimmel Memorial at Williams Grove Speedway.
Dewease, whose 380 wins in Central Pennsylvania are second all-time to Fred Rahmer’s 419 triumphs, tallied a pair of victories himself this year — June 6’s All Star Circuit of Champions event at Williams Grove Speedway and July 5’s Greg Hodnett Classic at Port Royal Speedway as part of PA Speedweek worth $20,000.
After running 42 races in 2025 and 41 races in ’24, Dewease is targeting 40-50 races around Central PA next season, but beyond Kubota High Limit Racing, WoO and traditional special events in the area, he doesn’t know an exact schedule quite yet.
As for the Shearer team, Brent Shearer will be returning to the No. 12 seat for 30-40 races in 2026.
“I just thought it was a good fit for me to go do. That’s all I can say about it right now,” Dewease told FloRacing. “I can’t tell you a schedule — we don’t know yet with everyone going on locally with the rumors about the local series that’s supposed to be announced. Nobody really knows what the schedule is going to look like.”
All told, Dewease managed four victories with the Shearer-owned team he joined October 2023, adding a pair of victories last May 3 at Williams Grove Speedway and last June 8 at Port Royal Speedway.
“Barry was a great person to drive for. The guys were great guys to be around and the guys that worked on the car, it was fun. We had fun,” Dewease said. “Me and Rich plan on having a lot of fun. Rich’s deal is a little bit better offer when it comes to the motor program. Our deal with Barry, we’re basically one blown-up motor away from being in a bind. … That was the main thing, the main reason.”
It’s the third long-term ride Dewease will hold since the beginning of 2023, a year that saw his seven-year tenure with the Kreitz Racing No. 69K team end that July. Dewease then announced his eventual two-year deal with the Shearers that October before now announcing he’ll be joining the Eichelberger-owned operation next season.
Dewease has also raced for Macri Motorsports (July 12-Oct. 9, 2023) and in a one-off event for the Chris Dyson-owned No. 20 team since Summer 2023. For Eichelberger, he’ll welcome his third driver since launching a 410 team in November 2021 with Freddie Rahmer, who held the ride for three full seasons before departing the seat last fall.
