Pennsylvania State Police troopers in Fayette County responded to a business after reports of shots being fired on Thursday morning.
It all started on Thursday, around 8:30 a.m., when Grant Headley went into the Route 51 Auto & Truck Wreckers in unincorporated Smock, where he had been recently fired from. Headley went there to pick up some $60,000 worth of personal tools.
According to state police, Headley got into a verbal confrontation with former co-worker James Bell and after a heated back-and-forth conversation. That’s when Headley went to his car and grabbed his pistol.
“Grant Headley fired his Smith & Wesson .380 seven times at the victim, striking him once,” Trooper Kalle Barnhart said. “When troopers arrived, they did find the victim with one gunshot wound to his thigh.”
Bell was treated at the scene, Headley fled and later turned himself in to the police without further incident.
Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele said that when someone uses a deadly weapon like a firearm, they are almost certainly intending to kill someone.
“Obviously, he is innocent until proven guilty,” said Aubele. “Ultimately, the fact that he has turned himself in isn’t going to affect our investigation. We are going to get statements, collect evidence and put together a case and prosecute if necessary.”
Headley is currently in custody. During his arraignment, he was denied bail. Bell is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition.
