An accident and nearby vehicle fire have forced police to close the A1M and M1, sparking travel chaos.
The A1M is also closed in both directions between Junction 38 and Junction 39 due to a "police led incident".
Traffic is also building near Barnsley and Huddersfield in Yorkshire on the M1 after the blaze erupted between Junction 37 and Junction 38. Emergency services are at the scene and drivers are facing delays of up to 30 minutes on approach, National Highways says.
Drivers are facing queues of up to 30 minutes on approach to the M1 between junctions 37 and 38 following a vehcile fire.
National Highways said in a post on X: “Two lanes (of three) are closed on the M1 northbound near Barnsley between J37, Dodworth and J38, Darton due to a vehicle fire. South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are working at scene with our Traffic Officers providing traffic management."
The A1 remains closed in both directions between J38and J39 due to a police incident. There are delays of up 45 minutes on the approach.
