A CAR, lorry and a HGV have collided in a “serious” crash on the M20, with motorists warned of 10-mile tailbacks.
The motorway is shut westbound between Junction 9 and Junction 8 in Kent after emergency services raced to the scene of the crash this morning.

National Highways said the M20 is closed near Ashford with traffic on the eastbound carriageway also brought to a stop to allow an air ambulance to land.
The westbound lane remains closed, with motorists warned of significant disruption into the afternoon, according to Kent Police.
Tailbacks of up to 10 miles have been reported.
The force said in a statement: “Officers are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the M20, between junctions 9 and 8.

“The incident involving a car, lorry and HGV was reported at 8.29am on Tuesday 25 November 2025.
“Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service are also in attendance and the Londonbound carriageway will remain closed into the afternoon.
“The coastbound carriageway has now reopened and traffic is moving slowly while tailbacks clear.
“Motorists should plan their journeys accordingly.”

Traffic monitoring site Inrix said: “M20 Westbound closed, long delays due to serious accident, a car and a lorry involved from J9 A20 / A251 (Ashford) to J8 A20 (Leeds Castle / Maidstone Services).
“Since 08:30, 10 miles after J9, then closed Londonbound at 09:00, and blocked Coastbound for fire and rescue. Trapped traffic released at 10:09.
“Diversion – via the A20. From Dover, use the A2 and M2 towards London.”
National Highways said: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
“Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex left scene at 09:55 but eastbound traffic wasn’t released until 10:20 as emergency services continued to work at the scene of the collision,” they added.
“Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service have now left scene, with Kent Police collision investigations teams now working at the scene of the incident.
National Highways has advised road users to follow the hollow square diversion symbol, which has a height limit of 4.7m:
They also advised traffic leaving the Port of Dover to use the A2/M2 for London.
“National Highways area team crews have arrived to take over the full closure at Ashford and to provide welfare facilities to the police and national highways crews who remain at scene.
“Although no estimated time of re-opening can be provided at this time, it is fully expected that the road will remain closed into and past this evening’s peak traffic period.”
It comes after commuters also faced long delays on the M4 this morning following a four-car crash in south Wales.

Queues were building on the M4 eastbound in Newport between Junction 24 and Junction 23 as motorists faced delays of over an hour.
