A teenage girl has suffered life threatening injuries after being hit by a car. Two 16-year-old girls were struck by a white MG ZS as they crossed a road in the High Heaton area of Newcastle on Wednesday afternoon.
The collision is understood to have occurred on Newton Road, near Jesmond Park Academy, shortly after 3.30pm. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene where one girl was found to have life-threatening injuries.
She was rushed by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) where she currently remains. The other girl was checked over by paramedics after sustaining minor injuries.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene to assist police with their enquiries. Officers were still in the area more than two hours after the incident occurred.
Northumbria Police is now appealing for witnesses to come forward. The force are particularly keen to hear from those with dash cam footage of the moments leading up to the incident.
A spokesperson said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a teenage girl sustained life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a vehicle in Newcastle.
"At 3.45pm yesterday (Wednesday), police received a report via the ambulance service of a collision on Newton Road in the High Heaton area of the city. It was reported that a white MG ZS car had struck two girls, both aged 15, as they crossed the road.
"Emergency services attended and one of the girls was found to have sustained life-threatening injuries in the incident. She was taken to hospital for treatment where she remains.
The other girl sustained minor injuries and was checked over by paramedics at the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene following the collision to assist officers with their enquiries.
"Enquiries into the collision are ongoing and officers are appealing to anyone with information to contact them."
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) sent two ambulances, a clinical team leader and a specialist paramedic to the scene. A spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident involving a car and pedestrians on Weldon Crescent, Newcastle shortly after 15.30 on 26 November.
"One patient was treated and discharged at the scene and another was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."
