The Matrix LED headlamps and new-gen OLED taillamps are part of the hardware upgrade that Audi is giving to five cars that are based on the PPE and PPC platforms in the 2026 model year. These cars include the A6 sedan and the new Matrix LED, which not only illuminate the road ahead but also feature driver aid functions, multiple animations and a lot more exciting tech.
New Matrix LED Gets Latest Micro-LED Tech
Audi’s new Digital Matrix LED offers both personalisation and high-resolution lighting with the help of the latest micro-LED tech. It also gets lane guidance and lane centering function that allows the headlamps to project arrow symbols on the road ahead. In slippery conditions, drivers can see an ice symbol projected on the road ahead of them. These features offer advanced safety for the passengers and pedestrians without any driver input.
Active Projection On Road With Matrix LED
Coming to the more theatrical properties of the Digital Matrix LED, the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) in the new system consist of 48 LED segments per headlight. This allows the new A6 sedan to have 8 different DRL signatures that the driver can choose from. The signatures are also animated and give a light show when the car is locked or unlocked. The same goes for the digital OLED rear lights 2.0, which are now part of the manifesto. Each taillamp has 198 active LED segments that offer multiple animation options and give a striking appearance.
