Over 72,500 trucks have instrument clusters that can go blank at start up or while driving
Vehicles are becoming increasingly high-tech, but there’s a downside to numerous screens. That’s clear today as Ram is recalling 72,509 vehicles over a display issue.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the trucks may have a software error, which can result in a blank instrument cluster display. This means they fail to comply with an assortment of federal motor vehicle safety standards.

The recall impacts the 2025-2026 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500. These are equipped with 12-inch displays that can “go blank at start up or while driving.”
The recall report doesn’t say much about the issue, but the company began investigating blank displays in September. To fix the problem, dealership techs will inspect and update the instrument panel software. If necessary, the entire instrument cluster could be replaced.
Owner notifications are schedule to go out early next month, but only 1% of recalled vehicles are believed to suffer from the issue.
Airbag Frags
The second recall is more serious as it involves side curtain airbag inflators that can rupture and shoot shrapnel at occupants. The issue impacts 1,879 vehicles including the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic and 3500 as well as the 2019-2020 2500.
The airbag inflators were made by Joyson Safety Systems and they’ve been a thorn in Stellantis’ side as they’ve sparked numerous recalls over the years.
Things kicked off in March of 2024 as the 2018-2021 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 were recalled for side curtain airbag inflators that could rupture due to moisture introduced during manufacturing. This moisture can cause internal corrosion, which can eventually lead to stress cracks in the inflator.
Ram issued a similar recall for the 2018 1500, 2500, and 3500 in September of this year. The company later began looking into whether some 2019 and 2020 models were built with inflators from the bad batch.
This action identified a handful of potential vehicles, although only 0.1% are believed to have them. That would be about two trucks out of the entire recall population.
While that’s a small number, the automaker is aware of one customer assistance record related to the issue. Owners will be notified later this month and dealers will replace one or both of the airbags, as needed.
