MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Angela Kinnison — an overnight caregiver who spends her nights helping others while caring for her disabled husband during the day — was named Cornerstone Caregiving’s Caregiver of the Year and walked away with the keys to a brand-new car.
Selected from 400 nominees (one nominee from each Cornerstone location nationwide), Kinnison received the company’s highest honor in a surprise reveal that left her emotional.
“I went to my knees. I didn’t know what to say,” Kinnison said, moments after learning she had won.
Margaret Childers, Operating Director of Cornerstone Caregiving’s Mobile location, praised Kinnison’s dedication.
“Angela deserves every bit of recognition she is getting. She strives to do her best with everything she does. There’s so many things about her — the reason that we nominated her,” Childers said.
Kinnison’s day is spent caring for her husband at home; at night she reports for her caregiver shift. Despite personal challenges, her employers say she has never been late or called in sick for her overnight work.
“I just know I have a job to take care of.. And I have to get up and help these people,” Kinnison said.
Before the surprise, Kinnison’s previous car often broke down, making transportation a constant worry. The new vehicle removes that burden and allows her to transport her family safely.
“That’s the number one thing. If you have a good vehicle, you can work further. I’m just thankful to have a job here. They treat us really well. I can see they recognize the things that we do,” she said.
Angela Kinnison is now the proud owner of a 2025 Nissan Kicks SR, a gift that organizers say reflects Cornerstone Caregiving’s gratitude for caregivers who go above and beyond.
