Racing fans of the sim persuasion sure are celebrating the holidays early. It’s not just Gran Turismo 7 that just got a big fat content update, Assetto Corsa Evo is getting one as well.
Still in Early Access, Assetto Corsa has released its fourth content update, v.0.4, or Update 4, today with a good selection of tracks and cars.
The car selection is wild one, as it includes the Ferrari SF-25.
Yes, it’s this year’s Scuderia Ferrari F1 car. No, it’s not the first F1 car in the game but it is the first modern one, albeit the last from these set of regulations. Yes, it has a functional DRS system with F1 tracks in the game now having DRS zones. Yes, it’s likely to go winless despite the efforts of two of the most talented drivers on the grid.
But hey, you can drive one yourself virtually and see how it is depicted in AC Evo. Next year is our year, tifosi.
Not an F1 fan? What about a Supra? Or a BMW M3 E46, the road-going version of Need For Speed Most Wanted (2005)’s hero car?
There’s some good selection to be had here, and some of these comes in variants- a smart design choice that avoid the racing game problem of having multiple versions of the same cars counted as a unique car despite them being variants.
The Supra, for example, comes with a drift variant that’s presumably set up for going around corners with exuberant style, smoke and all, rather than track precision.
There are also more tracks, five of them. Some with multiple layouts. The star of the show has to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, which also includes the Touristenfahrten layout, the one that’s a real-life public toll road.
There’s one new F1 track perfect to be paired with the new F1 car, Monza. Road Atlanta has the charm of navigating sharp curves while trundling down and uphill and Oulton Park is a cool pick you don’t see often in mainstream racing games.
Nordschleife (3 layouts including Touristenfahrten)
AC Evo is also adding Ranked Racing through a new Daily Racing Portal, acevo.gg. This site allows players to browse through available competitive events and register for them outside of the game in a similar way iRacing does. Performance on ranked races are measured in GridRating.
Update 4 of AC Evo also brings changes to the physics, which includes the following:
Assetto Corsa Evo is still in Early Access, and development has not been what the development team at Kunos Simulazioni expected as the game launched with a myriad of issues. It seems to be on the right path again though. If you think now’s the right time to get the game, it’s currently on sale with a 20% discount, dropping to a cool RM88 in Malaysia. There’s also a bundle that includes the other Assetto Corsa game currently in Early Access, Assetto Corsa Rally.
Assetto Corsa Evo is out now in Early Access on PC (Steam).
