If you’ve been keeping an eye on the Lexus LFR spy photos lately, you already know Toyota has been cooking up something big — the spiritual successor to the legendary LFA. And now, today at Monterey, the legendary Japanese brand has finally given us a much clearer look at what’s coming.
This morning at The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering in Pebble Beach, Lexus rolled out the Lexus Sport Concept, and let’s just say — if the LFA and LC 500 had a baby, this would be the stunning love child. Wide. Low. Sleek. The kind of shape that makes you weak in the knees everytime you lay eyes on it.
We’re talking about a two-door coupe that blends the elegance Lexus is famous for with the kind of aggressive stance that screams, “Yes, I’m a fast Japanese sports car that can make supercars quiver.” Lexus calls it “progressively styled” and “future-focused,” which is corporate jargon for, “This thing looks like it could eat a supercar for breakfast.”
It’s all swooping lines, muscular proportions, and enough presence to make even seasoned Pebble Beach spectators forget they’re standing next to million-dollar classics. And while Lexus is still keeping the full spec sheet locked away from impatient journalists, we know this car is going to be somethig truly special when it hits production.
We have already gotten our first dose of the LFA successor thanks to spy shots, and some juicy tidbits from Goodwood Festival of Speed. Here’s what we expect from the upcoming Lexus LFR supercar.
There’s also going to be a Toyota version (sorry, America, it’s not coming here) that will form the basis for Toyota’s upcoming GT3 race car. Apparently, Lexus and Toyota even benchmarked the old AMG GT R during development — which means this thing’s mission is clear: become a supercar that will shatter expectations.
The LFA was one of the most special cars of the 21st century — a halo machine that proved Lexus could do more than just make whisper-quiet luxury sedans. It had a screaming V10 and a presence that made Ferrari owners nervous. This new car looks like it’s ready to take that legacy and crank it up to 11… possibly with twin turbos and a wicked exhaust note. And, if the concept we saw today is even close to what the production car will look like, enthusiasts are in for a treat. With Toyota also gunning for racing glory with its GT3 variant, we’re about to see a Japanese performance renaissance that might just rock the supercar establishment.
