A new episode of Disney Unscripted on the Disney Parks YouTube channel goes behind the scenes of the holiday transformation of Cars Land in Disney California Adventure.
The decor change takes place over the course of many nights, but still has to be done in a relatively seamless manner, so Halloween and the holidays aren’t clashing too much, and so everything is ready in time for the official start of the holidays. Not to mention, crew members and construction equipment have to be out of the way of guests by the time the park opens each morning.
The 15-minute episode features several cast and crew members, mostly following resort enhancement manager Tristen Tierney. One decoration highlighted in the episode is the Cars Land billboard, which Tierney said in previous years was an overlay. This year, they switched to a replaceable vinyl, which park decorator Nick Stauf stretched into place.
A major element of Cars Land at any time of year is the lights. The crew used to re-light the trees every holiday, but over the past two years, they have switched to technology that allows them to just change what colors the lights are. This saves time as they only have to choose a color instead of completely re-stringing. Park decorator and “King of Strings” Jesus Hernandez adjusted the lights.
