Wenne Alton Davis, an actress known for her roles in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “New Amsterdam,” died Monday after she was struck by a car. She was 60.
Davis was hit by an SUV at the intersection of West 53rd Street and Broadway in Midtown Manhattan just before 9 p.m. on Dec. 8, The New York Times reported. She was brought to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Davis’s agent, Jamie Harris, also confirmed to NYT that she died in the crash.
Born Wendy Davis on Oct. 18, 1965, in Durham, North Carolina, the actress moved to New York in her late 20s. She started out as a stand-up comedian before switching to acting. Harris said Davis worked full time as a customs agent at John F. Kennedy International Airport but took acting jobs on the side.
“She had a huge love for New York, for acting, for her colleagues at J.F.K. and, most of all, her family and her circle of friends (which was also huge),” he told the NYT.
Davis’ most recent role was in 2023 as a police officer in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”
Other shows she appeared in were “Blindspot,” “Rescue Me,” and “American Odyssey.” She also appeared in the 2011 film “Shame,” starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan.
