A man has suffered life-threatening injuries in a five car crash that has seen a valleys road shut for over 16 hours.
The A4233 has been closed in both directions in Tonyrefail after a serious crash which occurred at around 5pm on Thursday evening. Police say the road is likely to remain closed for some time as their investigation work is ongoing.
The closure is between the roundabout of the A4119 and the A4233 towards Trebanog.
A spokesperson for South Wales police said: "South Wales Police was called yesterday afternoon at 4:50pm to a serious collision involving five cars between the roundabout of the A4119 and the A4233 towards Trebanog.
"A man was taken to hospital with what are described as life threatening injuries. Investigations into the collision are ongoing."

As we approach 1pm, traffic systems show the A4233 Trebanog Road in both directions remains closed, with slow traffic due to accident investigation work from the A4119 (Tonyrefail) to Collenna Road (Trebanog).

Traffic monitoring system Inrix shows the A4233 Trebanog Road remains closed in both directions due to accident investigation work from the A4119 (Bryn Golau) to Collenna Road (Tonyrefail).
Police remain at the scene of the incident and the road remains shut just before 5am. There is currently no update on when the road is expected to reopen.
Following the collision on the A4233 in Tonyrefail police are asking motorists to "please avoid the area" and use alternative routes where possible. The road is currently closed and is expected to remain shut until the morning.
According to South Wales police the roundabout of the A4119 and the A4233 towards Trebanog is closed in both directions. The force say that the road will be shut until morning and likely until past rush hour.
