Drivers faced delays on the M2 this morning following a car fire.
Queues built up on the coastbound stretch between Junctions 4 and 5.
A photo showed flames licking from the front of a silver vehicle, which had stopped close to the A249 turn-off.
A police spokesman said: “We were called at 9.50am to a report of a car alight on the M2 coastbound carriageway between Junctions 5 and 6 near Faversham.
“Officers attended and closed the road while the fire was extinguished.”
The driver was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but no serious injuries were reported.
The road has now been reopened.
Meanwhile, National Highways has closed the eastbound M26 between Junction 5 for the M25 and Junction 3 for the M20 to allow for emergency carriageway repairs.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area.
