BMW has already launched the first of its “Neue Klasse” electric vehicles, and there are plenty more to come over the next few years. Here’s everything you can expect to see before 2030. 
2025 has been a busy year for BMW, and the biggest news has been the launch of the new iX3. This Carwow Award-winning electric SUV is the first model to feature the brand’s “Neue Klasse” EV technology, which is a collection of parts which will underpin every new electric BMW in the future.
News editor Jamie Edkins has driven the iX3, and he was hugely impressed. It drives fantastically, and the new infotainment tech on board is brilliant as well. It sets a good precedent for future BMW EVs which will be built on this same platform, including the highly-anticipated i3 electric saloon.
Here’s a rundown of everything you can expect from BMW before 2030.

The next model you can expect from BMW is the all-new 3 Series. It’ll be available as an all-electric i3 for the first time using the same parts as the iX3, so it should be able to do more than 500 miles on a charge and you can expect it to be fantastic to drive.
It’ll also have the same Panoramic iDrive infotainment system as the iX3, meaning you’ll get a huge display which spans the windscreen to keep all your vital information in the driver’s eyeline.
A petrol version of the new 3 Series will also be available with the same styling, but under the skin it’s likely to be a heavily-revised version of the current car rather than an all-new model. The electric car will be revealed in the first half of next year, with the petrol version following soon after.
The 3 Series is cool, but you petrolheads out there will be more interested in the new BMW M3. It’s due to come along in 2027, and it’ll be the first ever all-electric full-fat M car. You could be looking at around 700hp from a quad-motor setup, but fans of the straight-six engine don’t need to panic.
That’s because BMW is working to get the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine in the current M3 up to the latest emissions standards, allowing it to live on in the next car. So you don’t need to mourn the petrol-powered sports saloon just yet.
It may have only been out for around a year, but the facelifted BMW M5 has already been spotted testing. It’s not likely to be a massive overhaul, rather a light redesign to bring it in line with the next 3 Series.
The current car’s 4.4-litre V8 hybrid system will probably remain unchanged, but by the time this updated M5 comes out BMW might be ready to eke a bit more power out of it. As much as 750hp could be possible.
The larger iX5 is due to follow the iX3 in 2026, and it’ll also use the same Neue Klasse collection of parts. This means you can expect to see a 108kWh battery delivering around 500 miles of range, as well as the same infotainment tech as its smaller stablemate.
Petrol versions will also be offered further down the line, and BMW is working on a hydrogen version which will debut in 2028. It’ll be BMW’s first ever mass-produced hydrogen car, and it’s working with Toyota to develop its technology as well as improve the global hydrogen infrastructure.
