Authorities identified the driver as a 56-year-old woman from Nunspeet, who was slightly injured in the crash. Police said she was detained, which they noted is standard procedure in serious traffic accidents. Mayor Jan Nathan Rozendaal called the incident “a moment of great worry and sadness” in a statement, adding that what should have been a moment of solidarity ended in shock for the community.
Following the incident, organizers confirmed on Facebook that the annual light parade would no longer continue through Nunspeet. The event typically passes through four villages each year.
