A Honda dealership in North Peoria has a new name and a new owner, after the prior owners sold it to a Detroit-based company in a $7 million sale.
Bob Lindsay Honda changed its name to Victory Honda Peoria after Victory Automotive, a Detroit-based chain of car dealerships stretching from California in the west to Virginia in the east, purchased the dealership in a $7.3 million sale on Dec. 2.

The Lindsay family said in a statement that selling the dealership was a “challenging and deeply emotional decision,” with their 26-year tenure as owners of the Honda dealership being the “most rewarding of (their) fifty-one-year career in the automotive industry.”
Victory Honda will keep the existing staff while a search is underway to find a new general manager. The Lindsays will remain owners of Bob Lindsay Acura, located a few blocks away on North Allen Road, with Mike Bowermaster serving as that store’s general manager.
The Lindsays said that they were grateful for the support of their customers and wished Victory well in their run as the dealership’s owners. With the family still in operation of an Acura dealership, they also hoped that customers would continue to trust them with their automotive needs.
The Lindsays purchased the Honda dealership in 1999, putting their foothold in the Peoria market after more than 25 years selling cars in Galesburg and the Quad Cities. The dealership itself opened as Honda World in 1972, selling the company’s brand of motorcycles before transitioning into primarily selling cars.
