KG Mobility, formerly SsangYong, is developing a midsize truck with the face of a Ford, the grille of a Jeep, and a name you’ve heard before
Update: Following the release of teasers earlier this year, KGM has now revealed the first official photos and further details of its new Musso pickup truck. We’ve updated our story below to include everything new.
Mid-size pickups are booming worldwide, and automakers are queuing up to take on best-sellers like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. Korea already has Kia in the fight with the new Tasman, and now KG Mobility (formerly SsangYong) is pushing in as well. The company plans to spin the Musso name into a sub-brand for electric, hybrid, and combustion-powered trucks.
Fresh off the Musso EV’s debut, KGM has unveiled another pickup with a tougher, more rugged look. The new model, codenamed Q300, will serve as a replacement for the Rexton Sports, sold internationally as the Musso. First revealed in sketches earlier this year, it has now fully revealed its exterior design.

At the front, LED headlights adopt a design clearly nodding to the Ford F-150, a direction also taken by models like the BYD Shark and the Nissan/Dongfeng Frontier Pro.
A five-slot grille with Jeep-like vibes features illuminated slats for extra presence, while a broad skid plate dominates the bumper area. Large cooling intakes and chunky detailing enhance the truck’s off-road character.
KGM is offering two versions of the truck, including a standard model and a more stylized “Grand Style Package” that adds extra visual punch through off-road-themed cues.
Copy-Paste, Stretch-Job
Along the sides, the Q300 sticks with plastic cladding and integrated amber indicators, reminiscent of the KGM Musso EV. The greenhouse, pillars, and roof rails appear unchanged from the outgoing Rexton Sports, though most of the body panels are new. It’s a mix of carryover hardware and reworked surfaces.

At the rear, vertical LED lights frame a sculpted tailgate that prominently features KGM badging. A generous amount of black plastic cladding surrounds the lower section, which includes a redesigned bumper with integrated steps. A long, tubular sports bar sits atop the bed, adding a more utility-focused touch.
A KGM spokesperson commented, “Musso was designed to accommodate a variety of lifestyles through a design that transcends everyday life and the outdoors. Based on strength and practicality, we will provide customers with a convenient and enjoyable driving experience.”
Cabin and Powertrain Expectations
The interior hasn’t been shown yet, but the double-cab body and overall proportions suggest a five-seater cabin with a digital cockpit setup, much like its electric sibling.

The current generation of the KGM Rexton Sports / Musso was introduced in 2018, with a facelift in 2023. It shares a ladder frame chassis with the Rexton SUV and is powered by conventional gasoline and diesel engines. The upcoming version may stick with this platform, albeit with structural upgrades and the addition of a hybrid option.
Coming Soon to Global Markets
The full reveal is scheduled for January 2026, with a domestic launch in Korea to follow. International availability hasn’t been confirmed, but the Q300 could also head to markets like Europe, the UK, and Australia, where it would line up against the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi L200, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, VW Amarok, Kia Tasman, GWM Cannon, and Maxus/LDV T60.
