TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A motorist was uninjured Friday evening when their vehicle was crossing the railroad tracks on Rivercrest Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie, near the Pirate Canoe Club, and was struck by a northbound Amtrak train. The accident occurred at the at-grade crossing around 6:15 pm, during the early stages of the snowstorm. There were approximately three inches of snow on the ground at the time of the collision.
The Arlington Fire Department and Town of Poughkeepsie police responded to the accident, just yards from the Hudson River, and worked to assess the motorist. North and southbound train service was at a full stop between Poughkeepsie and Beacon while the first responders worked on the tracks.
MTA police located the train about a half-mile north of the wreck and were planning to assess passengers for any injuries.
Service on the tracks resumed just before 8 p.m.
