Mount Prospect Police Headquarters on Kensington Road
Mount Prospect trustees approved the purchase of five replacement vehicles for the police department fleet for $335,000.
The purchase was included in the 2026 community investment budget, with three vehicles used for front line emergencies and two by staff and the investigations sections. The vehicles in need of replacement have mileage ranging from 50,000 to 144,000 miles.
The frontline patrol cars will be replaced with three 2026 Ford Explorers with all-wheel drive (AWD) hybrid pursuit-rated utility vehicles. The two staff vehicles will also be replaced with 2026 Ford Explorers, but are not pursuit rated. The Mount Prospect Police Department has been using Explorers for 15 years.
“The village is a member of the Northwest Municipal Conference (NWMC), which has pricing available through the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC). The 2026 Ford Explorer all- wheel drive hybrid pursuit-rated vehicles are included in the Joint Purchasing Contract #204. The non-pursuit rated 2026 Ford Explorers are included in the Joint Purchasing Contract #231. Both of these vehicles are available for purchase through Currie Motors in Frankfort. These are public bid contracts that satisfy the procurement requirements of the village of Mount Prospect’s purchasing policy,” an official memo for trustees at their Dec. 16 village board meeting says.
The old vehicles will be evaluated by Mount Prospect Public Works to determine whether they will remain as pool vehicles, or sold through an auction.
