BREAKING UPDATE: Chattanooga Police say an officer who was hurt during a shootout at a gas station in Hixson Sunday night is in stable condition as of Monday morning.

The officer was hurt a little after 11 p.m., when police responded to a shots-fired call at the Circle K on Highway 153.
Police say as soon as officers arrived, a man opened fire. The TBI says

One witness who saw it said it was odd to see a CPD vehicle leaving the scene without their lights or sirens on.
Several officers gave chase after the suspect. That chase ended early Monday morning in neighboring Sequatchie County.
A release from Chattanooga Police says after the crash off of Highway 111, the suspect tried to run away from the vehicle — all while nursing a gunshot he got back at the gas station in Hixson.
Police say the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now handling the investigation. Read the TBI's news release on the incident here.
Authorities have not released the officer’s name. No one else was hurt.
Chattanooga Police say every officer involved in this incident are now in paid administrative leave, which is standard policy.

A suspect is in custody after allegedly shooting a police officer and stealing his patrol car at a Circle K off of Highway 153 in Hixson late Sunday night.
The officer was responding to a shots fired call at the time of the incident.
The suspect fled the scene in the stolen police car, leading authorities to pursue.
The pursuit ended on East Valley Road off of Highway 111 in Sequatchie County where the suspect drove off the road before being apprehended.

Both the wounded officer and suspect were taken to Erlanger Hospital in downtown Chattanooga.
The condition of the officer and what led to the initial shots fired call are currently unknown.
The TBI is leading the investigation.
