A young child is in a “very serious condition” after three people were injured in an incident at a car park.
Witnesses say a car ploughed through barriers before landing in Gorrell Tank car park in Whitstable at about 8.15pm last night.
Exact details are not yet known, but paramedics treated the young child, a man, and woman at the scene, close to the junction of Cromwell Road and Harbour Street.
An ambulance service spokesman said the child “was in a very serious condition”, and confirmed the man had suffered “serious injuries”.
A witness told KentOnline how the incident was “very serious and very sad”.
“A nice young man approached us and advised us not to take the children to where we had parked as something had happened,” she said.
“My granddaughter said she could see a car had gone through the barrier.
“And when my husband came back with the car, he said lots of people were crying.”
A fire service spokesman said it was called to a “crash involving two cars”, and sent three fire engines to the scene.
Canterbury City Council, which runs the car park, says its “thoughts are with everyone affected”.
The site reopened this morning, but the authority says it has officers at the car park today “to offer help and support”.
Police have also been contacted for comment.
