SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) – A South Carolina woman lost her life in a hit-and-run crash just months after welcoming a baby girl.
According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a person down in a parking lot on Whitney Road just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Upon arrival, authorities said the person had already died.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as 31-year-old Dane Josephine Waddell, of Spartanburg.
Waddell’s family shared that she was a new mom, giving birth to a baby girl in October 2025.
Investigators said evidence at the scene revealed that Waddell was run over and dragged by a vehicle. She died at 3:35 a.m.
Deputies say they are investigating the crash as a hit-and-run.
Security footage helped identify the type of car that hit Waddell, but authorities have not been able to track it down yet.
Spartanburg County officials said no immediate arrests have been made and that their investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with further information is urged to contact Spartanburg County Investigator Nick Federico at 864-503-4591.
