Tata Motors is set to launch the Punch facelift in India today. One of its strongest sellers here, the Punch is getting its first major update since its launch in 2021. Changes on the new model will go beyond mere cosmetic updates. It will get a new, sharper styling, more features, a better cabin experience and even a new powertrain! Hours left for the market debut, here’s everything to know about the facelifted Punch.
Tata recently revealed the exterior design and interior details of the facelift officially, and a lot seems to have changed. It, however, retains the pre-facelift's boxy silhouette.
It looks much better than the previous SUV, and the overall styling is now more in line with that of the Punch.EV. The facelift gets refreshed LED headlamps, new LED DRLs, and LED fog lamps with cornering function. There is no full-width LED light bar at the front.
Changes can also be seen in the grille section, front and rear bumpers, wheels, and the LED tail lamp cluster. The new SUV gets features like auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and a rear wiper-washer.
Tata Motors has also revamped the Punch’s colour palette. Buyers will be able to choose from Pristine White, Daytona Grey, Bengal Rouge, Cyantific Blue, Coorg Clouds, and the bold Caramel shade. Some of these shades are shared with newer Tata models like the Sierra and go well with Punch’s overall styling.
The new SUV’s cabin has had significant improvements. The overall layout and dashboard design remain similar to those of the previous Punch. New features have, however, been added to the car. It gets a new, bigger touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The driver’s display is now a 7-inch unit with updated graphics. Previously it was a semi-digital unit.
The feature list of the new Punch also consists of touch-based HVAC controls, rear AC vents, a flat-bottom steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, wireless phone charger, push-button start, connected car tech, an auto-dimming IRVM, cruise control, and more. Tata has also given it USB Type-C fast charging ports. The SUV will also come with a front armrest.
The updated internal combustion Punch will also come with a single-pane sunroof and a 360-degree camera. Most of features of the previous model will also be carried over. On the safety front, six airbags are offered on higher variants.
Mechanically, the biggest update is the introduction of a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. Expected to produce around 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque, it comes from the bigger Nexon. A six-speed manual gearbox is likely to be offered with this engine.
In addition to this, the new Punch will also be offered with the two familiar engine options- 1.2L, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol and CNG. The latter will use dual-cylinder technology to store CNG, thereby freeing up boot space.
Tata Motors is likely to offer the facelifted Punch in six trims- Smart, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Accomplished, and the range-topping Accomplished+ S. This means that features and powertrain options will be evenly distributed within trims and variants.
The carmaker seems to have addressed nearly every shortcoming of the outgoing model with the facelift. Pricing will be revealed later today. Considering the changes made to the product, we expect the prices to go slightly upward. For perspective, the current Punch is priced in the range of Rs 5.50lakh- Rs 9.30 lakh, ex-showroom. If the company manages to keep the increases under check, it will clearly have a winner in the facelifted Punch.
