In a statement emailed to NBC Chicago, Rush said it was coordinating with hospital security and the Chicago Police Department after an employee was “the victim of an aggravated battery with a firearm outside the Armour Academic Center.”
“The victim and their family are at the center of our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement went on to say. “Wellness resources are being made available to any staff in need following this incident.”
Video from the scene showed yellow police tape blocking parts of the street outside the hospital. Law enforcement could also be seen searching a black Jeep Cherokee.
