TikTok user and Toyota salesman Jeb (@jeb.sells.toyota) recently took to the social media platform to share an invaluable car shopping secret.
As he walks around the lot, he approaches a group of vehicles which his dealership refers to as “back line special pieces.”
“These are vehicles that have some outside deformities. Chips, paint, stuff along those lines that we don’t want to fix, but make sure are mechanically sound,” he continued.
Jeb then shows the highly desirable cars that are part of these back line specials, including a post-facelift second-gen Toyota Highlander, a third-gen Toyota Prius, and a fourth-gen GMC Yukon.

While all desirable even at higher prices assuming a condition matching the price point, Jeb shockingly shares that these vehicles can be driven off the lot for $15,000.
However, Jeb shares a key caveat in the process of purchasing these mechanically sound vehicles at a discounted rate.
“Generally, all these vehicles are under $15,000. They are cash vehicles,” he explained. “You just have to know, ‘I’m not going to be able to finance this vehicle unless I go through a private bank.’”
In other words, dealerships typically don’t offer in-house financing on such vehicles, meaning drivers will need to show up with the full purchase price in cash to take their chosen back line special home.

However, as Jeb points out, this means shoppers can finance their purchase through a private bank and use the cash from that car loan to pay the dealership for their chosen vehicle in full.
Jeb’s tip to drivers shopping for new rides comes at the perfect time, with Americans paying more than ever for both new and used cars as other industry metrics sound major alarms.
