Ford will have a new car body in the NASCAR Cup Series. The new Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC will debut in the Cup Series starting in 2027, the manufacturer announced in a live stream. Ford introduced the Dark Horse Mustang in 2024, but it will only last three seasons before moving to a new body.
As of now, Team Penske, RFK Racing, Wood Brothers Racing, and Front Row Motorsports are the only full-time teams to have support from Ford. Following the 2025 NASCAR season, Haas Factory Team and Rick Ware Racing made the decision to transition into the Chevrolet camp.
Chevrolet will have a new car body for the 2026 Cup Series season, leaving Toyota as the only manufacturer without a new upgrade. Ford hopes to send the Dark Horse Mustang out with a bang by winning the 2026 Cup Series championship before the new body debuts in February 2027.
