The average new vehicle listing price in July was $48,480
Tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump have caused quite an upheaval in the automotive industry, but data has revealed that new vehicle inventory has now returned to levels comparable to before the measure was put in place. In addition, average new vehicle listing prices in the US have fallen, and that’s great news for anyone in the market for a new set of wheels.
Cox Automotive has revealed that as of July 31, 2025, total new vehicle inventory in the US was sitting at 2.68 million vehicles, or 73 days of supply, with an average listing price of $48,480. By comparison, there were 2.83 million new vehicles in inventory at the start of July. Current inventory levels are also down 4.7 percent compared to a year ago.

New vehicle inventory is now the fourth lowest it has been in the past 12 months. The average days’ supply reached a low of 67.2 days in April and was also low at 71.5 days in March and 71.3 days in May. The recent decline in inventory came alongside a surge in sales, with approximately 1,101,474 new vehicles sold in the US across July, a significant increase from the 1,013,764 sold in 2024.
While the average supply of new vehicles has fallen across the industry, there are no fewer than 24 car manufacturers with inventories above the average. Land Rover has the highest of all, sitting at 130 days’ worth. This positioned it above Ram with 121, Lincoln with 117, Audi with 114, Mitsubishi with 109, Jeep with 104, and Genesis with 99 days’ worth of supply.
July’s average new vehicle listing price of $48,480 represented a 0.3 percent month-over-month decrease. However, the average listing price is 2.8 percent higher than it was in July last year. This shows that while there has been a slight increase in new vehicle prices because of the tariffs, most car manufacturers have held strong on pricing despite suffering significant losses as a result of President Trump’s policy.
