If you’re flying out of Heathrow Terminal 5 today, the parking lot is open — one lane is shut while emergency services deal with the car that caught fire, but the other one is still operational, and as of ~9am the traffic is minimal. A fire today is the latest blaze after a vehicle went up in flames at a multi-storey car park at Heathrow last October.
On that occasion it was a diesel car that caught fire and fortunately led to no injuries.
The London Fire Brigade said of that incident on October 1, 2025: "Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire in a multi-storey car park at Heathrow Airport.
"A diesel car on level one was destroyed by fire and two adjacent vehicles sustained minor damage. There were no reports of any injuries.
"The Brigade’s Control Officers took the first of eight calls to the fire at 0904 and sent crews from Heathrow, Hayes and Feltham fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 1006. The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a fault in a diesel-powered vehicle."
A Heathrow spokesperson confirmed that there was a vehicle fire this morning which has now been extinguished.
They said: “Earlier this morning our teams responded to a vehicle fire on the Terminal 5 Departures forecourt. The fire was extinguished quickly and there were no injuries. The airport is now operating as usual”.
