For many Indian car buyers, the name Renault Duster brings back memories of a time when compact SUVs were still a novelty as when it launched in 2012, the Duster didn’t just enter a segment, it helped create one. Renault is all set to launch Duster today, unveiling the third-generation of this SUV in India on Republic Day. The new Duster is built on the CMF-B platform, which is a modern architecture used globally by Renault and its alliance partners. This platform allows for better safety, improved ride comfort and more advanced technology compared to the older model. While the SUV follows global design cues, Renault has made it clear that the Indian version will receive market-specific updates to suit local tastes and conditions.
The 2026 Duster looks far more contemporary than its predecessor as we expect sharper lines, a more upright stance and distinctive LED daytime running lights, which give it a modern identity while retaining a rugged SUV character. The overall design aims to strike a balance between toughness and everyday usability.
From the inside, the changes are expected to be even more noticeable. Renault is likely to equip the new Duster with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 7-inch digital driver display. Features such as wireless charging are also expected, bringing the Duster in line with current segment standards. Most notably, the SUV is set to offer ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which will be a first for Renault in India.
While Renault has not officially confirmed engine options yet, industry sources suggest turbo-petrol powertrains will be offered, including a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine. Manual and automatic gearbox options are expected, catering to both driving enthusiasts and urban users.
The timing of the Duster’s return is important as Renault’s presence in India has weakened over the years and the company is now looking to rebuild the momentum. The new Duster will go up against rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, all of which dominate the segment today.
Pricing has not been announced, but we expect the new Duster between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings and deliveries are likely to begin shortly after the reveal.
For buyers, today’s debut is more than just a launch, as it’s the return of a familiar SUV name, reimagined for a new generation. Whether the 2026 Renault Duster can live up to its legacy will soon be clear.
