If there’s a unique Chevrolet being offered at a charity auction, you can be pretty sure Rick Hendrick will be one of the bidders.
The NASCAR team owner and automotive megadealer has been the winning million-dollar bidder for many first and last examples of Chevys over the years and he just added another to his collection on Saturday night.
Hendrick was the winning bidder for a one-of-a-kind Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Stars and Steel, which is a special edition trim designed to celebrate the USA’s 250th Anniversary.
The 1,250 hp coupe pairs dark satin steel paint with a Santorini blue interior and features U.S. flag-inspired graphics and a few special touches that set it apart from the other 249 Stars and Steel Corvettes Chevrolet will offer this year.

Hendrick was the top bidder at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event and will be writing a $2,605,000 check for the car, all of which is earmarked for the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, which provides housing assistance for the families of fallen first responders and veterans, catastrophically injured first responders and veterans and homeless veterans.
“General Motors and Chevrolet have proudly stood with Tunnel to Towers in honoring those who serve and sacrifice for our nation,” Tunnel to Towers foundation Chairman and CEO Frank Siller said in a news release. “This incredible gift will help us continue delivering on our promise to never forget the families of our fallen heroes and to ensure our catastrophically injured veterans can live their lives with the dignity and independence they deserve. My brother Stephen ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel on September 11th to give his life for others – and today, through the generosity of Chevrolet, Barrett-Jackson, and this winning bidder, we carry forward that spirit of selfless service. On behalf of the Gold Star families, first responder families, and veterans we serve, we are deeply grateful.”
Hendrick already has the first Corvette ZR1 in his personal collection, which he bought at the auction last year for $3.7 million to support the American Red Cross.
