Two people are dead and three others are hurt after several cars were involved in a crash that closed Roosevelt Highway in Colchester, Vermont, Friday night.
Colchester police say there were multiple 911calls around 6:09 p.m. reporting a crash involving three vehicles at the intersection of Roosevelt Highway (US Routes 2/7) and Coon Hill Road.

Responding officers found several people trapped inside the cars, who needed to be freed by fire department personnel.
Multiple rescue crews treated and transported the five injured people to UVM Medical Center, where two people died from their injuries, police said. The other three people’s injuries were still being assessed Friday night, and there was no immediate word on their conditions.
Roosevelt Highway was closed following the crash. It’s unclear when it reopened. Further details were not immediately available, including what led to the deadly incident.
A reconstruction team from Vermont State Police is assisting the Colchester Police Department with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
