ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A car crashed into the front of the Carrs grocery store on Debarr Road in Anchorage on Monday afternoon, leaving the driver hospitalized and causing significant damage to the store’s entrance.
Police said the vehicle, which had two people inside, smashed through the front of the store. A witness told Alaska’s News Source that the driver appeared to be grabbing their chest before the crash.
APD confirmed that the driver was transported to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.
As of about 4:30 p.m., a tow truck was on scene, preparing to remove the vehicle.
Anchorage police labeled the event a car crash and said no criminal charges were filed. No arrests were made, and no further investigation is planned, according to an APD officer on scene.
The Anchorage Fire Department said the vehicle hit a nonstructural portion of the building.
The alternate entrance of the store remains open and there are no plans to close the store, according to a reporter on scene.
