CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A vehicle went into the Ohio River on Wednesday.
It happened at about 5:04 p.m. near the public landing. According to CPD Lt. Jerome Herring, officers arrived at the location and, through surveillance video, confirmed that a vehicle did go into the river. He said that it's believed the vehicle was occupied, but they are not sure how many people were inside.
He was asked if it appeared the vehicle intentionally drove into the river. He said that based on surveillance footage it appears that way, but he isn't fully sure.
Rescue crews were able to recover the vehicle at about 11:15 p.m.
"Emergency crews from several agencies, including Cincinnati Police and Fire, Boone County Water Rescue, and the Hamilton County Police Association Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, are on scene conducting search and rescue operations," said Lt. Herring.
Herring said that the cold water and temperatures are adding additional challenges to the rescue operation.
