New York state Thruway crash near Batavia
A multi-vehicle crash involving 25-30 passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers has shut down the New York State Thruway in both directions between Exits 48 and 48A in Batavia.
State Police, fire and EMS personnel are on scene responding to the crash at milepost 394.7 on I-90.
Injuries were reported but are not life-threatening.
“It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” said Steve Meyer, a driver who delivers meds for a living. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
All westbound lanes are blocked, with traffic being diverted off Exit 48.
All eastbound lanes are also blocked, with traffic being diverted off Exit 48A.
Motorists should expect long delays and consider using alternate routes to avoid the area.
