North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Interstate 85 has reopened after a minor crash snowballed into a major traffic emergency in Kannapolis.
According to WCNC, a small collision occurred near exit 60 for Dale Earnhardt Boulevard, dozens of tractor-trailers had to slow down to attempt to maneuver around it.

Over 30 tractor-trailers and more than 70 cars were trapped on the highway at one point, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The closed stretch reopened around 8:40 p.m.
Due to the freezing temperatures and inches of snowfall, the large trucks struggled to gain enough momentum to go forward.
Troopers said the Department of Transportation, National Guard, NC Emergency Management and local responders were called in to help clear the roads.
The Charlotte area got considerably more snow than the Triangle on Saturday, with heavy bursts falling at times. The official cause of the collision is not known.
