A massive car pileup involving nearly 60 cars was reported in central California, just north of Bakersfield, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.
Thick fog was said to be the cause of the major pileup, a problem that is familiar for drivers in that area.

Earlier this week on Tuesday, the fog caused another 43 car pileup in Kern County on Highway 58.
Saturday’s crash was reported at about 8:15 a.m. on Highway 99 in the Delano area near Avenue 24 in Tulare County. It shut down the highway in both directions for hours.
According to the California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer, officers on scene reported anywhere from 100 to 200 feet of visibility with fog.
“When officers arrived on scene, obviously they rolled up on multiple vehicle crashes involving tractor trailer combinations, sedans, pickup trucks,” the CHP PIO said.
By 2:30 p.m., all lanes were cleared on the freeway and traffic was flowing again.

Authorities confirmed 59 vehicles were involved in the crash. Ten people total were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. 
One person had a moderate injury with a laceration to their forehead while the rest had minor injuries.
