The charges arise from an investigation conducted by the Swansea Police Department in collaboration with law enforcement agencies across several jurisdictions.
Between July 3 and 10, seven vehicles were stolen in Swansea, including a Kia, Ford, Nissan, and Land Rover. Six of those vehicles have since been recovered.
During the same period, approximately 25 residents reported break-ins to their cars. Most of these incidents took place between 3:30 and 6:30 a.m.
Swansea Police partnered with various agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police and departments from Wareham, New Bedford, and Somerset, as neighboring communities experienced a similar surge in such crimes around that time.
In late July, Burgos, Luis Santiago, and Brian Santiago were arrested by the Wareham Police Department in connection with vehicle thefts and break-ins in that area.
Last week, the Fall River District Court issued criminal complaints from Swansea Police, formally charging the three men with the Swansea-related thefts and break-ins.
Burgos was arraigned on Thursday in Fall River District Court and is being held on $20,000 bail.
Luis Santiago and Brian Santiago, who are still in custody, are scheduled for arraignment at a later date in Fall River District Court.
“This investigation reflects more than a month of committed effort by our detectives and partners from multiple agencies,” said Chief Foley. “Car break-ins and thefts significantly affect the safety and sense of security for our residents, and these arrests underscore that such offenses will not be tolerated here. I urge residents to keep reporting any suspicious activity, as their alertness is vital in maintaining safe neighborhoods.”
