SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A woman was hospitalized after she was struck by a truck while crossing the road at a Salt Lake intersection on Monday.
Sgt. Greg Wilking, a spokesperson with the Salt Lake City Police Department, said the crash happened at the intersection of 1300 South and 1500 East, near Uintah Elementary School.
The woman, identified only as being in her "mid-fifties," suffered extremely critical injuries, according to Wilking.
"It's an unfortunate accident," said Wilking. "These accidents happen, especially on days like today when it's not weather-related. It's just a normal day, people going about their business and not paying attention."
The Salt Lake City Police Department anticipated the intersection would be closed for several hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene.
The public was advised to avoid the area. Parents picking up students at the end of the school day were asked to pick up their child on the east side of the school.
