The A14 remains partially blocked due to a crash which saw a car enter a ditch on the Cambridgeshire border. One lane remains blocked along the A14 westbound at Higham this afternoon (Wednesday, August 27).
This is due to recovery work taking place after a car crashed into a ditch and later caught fire. Traffic monitoring site Inrix says traffic is coping well.
Inrix says: "One lane closed due to emergency road surface repairs and earlier vehicle fire on A14 Westbound at J40 (Higham). Traffic is coping well."
Emergency services, including Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire and Rescue, were called to the crash just after 7.30am. A police spokesperson said in an earlier statement: "Police were called at 7.35am this morning, Wednesday, August 27, to reports that a vehicle had overturned on the A14 westbound at Kentford and gone into a ditch.
"Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service also attended as the vehicle caught fire. This has been extinguished.
"One lane is currently closed awaiting recovery of the car. National Highways have also been called as there is damage to a road sign and the believed also to the road surface.”

Suffolk Police were called to the incident just after 7.30am today (August 27). This was due to reports of a car that overturned into a ditch and later caught fire.
A police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 7.35am this morning, Wednesday, August 27, to reports that a vehicle had overturned on the A14 westbound at Kentford and gone into a ditch. Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service also attended as the vehicle caught fire. This has been extinguished."
Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the East of England Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
One lane is still closed due to recovery work but traffic is coping well, according to traffic monitoring site Inrix. It says: "One lane closed due to recovery work and earlier vehicle fire on A14 Westbound at J40 (Higham). Traffic is coping well."
There is slow traffic on the A14 after an earlier crash and vehicle fire.

Originally closed at 07:45 for nearly an hour and a half, with another hold before 10:00. Lane one (of two) remains closed to clear the vehicle and inspect for damage.
