The A12 has been shut again following a four-car pile-up. Emergency services are currently at the scene of the crash which happened on the southbound carriageway (August 28) near Colchester.
It has been shut from junction 8 A1341 (Colchester United Football Ground) to junction 27 A133 / Spring Lane (Avenue Of Remembrance Roundabout). As a result, there is congestion to junction 29 ( Ardleigh / Crown Interchange), and a couple of miles of onlookers.
There is also heavy diverting into town on Ipswich Road and Northern Approach Road, past the hospital, and west on Cowdray Avenue. There are severe delays following this incident.
It comes just hours after the A12 was shut southbound near Boreham earlier today as a result of a separate crash. It is unclear whether anybody has been injured in this crash however, but emergency services have been contacted.

Traffic is begining to ease now as the road reopens. Congestion is lessening.
Traffic is still queueing on the A12 following the earlier closure. All lanes reopened at 12.35pm but delays remain. Congestion has built to junction 29 the A120.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said:
We were called to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the A12 near Colchester shortly before 10.05am on Thursday 28 August. The incident is ongoing and we are working to resolve the incident and fully re-open the road as quickly as possible.

A woman has been rushed to hospital after the earlier A12 crash near Colchester. An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
We were called just after 10.05am to a road traffic collision near junction 28 of the A12, Colchester. An ambulance was sent to the scene and transported one patient, an adult woman, to Colchester General Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
Cars are now getting past but the road remains partially blocked. One lane remains shuts with severe delays. Recovery work is underway.
