The upcoming Electra L7 will have urban navigation on autopilot thanks to a new Xiao Yao Zhi Xing autonomous driving system
Buick’s North American lineup has been extensively refreshed as there’s a new Enclave and Envista as well as a facelifted Envision and Encore GX. However, the brand’s coolest products remain in China.
That trend continues as the company has used the Chengdu Auto Show to introduce their new Xiao Yao Zhi Xing autonomous driving system, which was jointly developed with Momenta. It’s essentially Super Duper Cruise as it will enable urban navigation on autopilot.

Buick didn’t go into many details, but said the system will allow for “seamless navigation through city roads, handling scenarios such as cut-ins, roundabouts, pedestrian crossings, and lane changes.” When approaching toll stations, the system can automatically recognize gates and continue driving even without lane markings.
Needless to say, this sounds far more advanced than Super Cruise, which is primarily limited to highways. Momenta said the system uses their R6 Flywheel Big Model, which incorporates “learning from tens of millions of kilometers of real-world data.” It also appears to use an assortment of cameras as well as LiDAR and millimeter-wave radar sensors.
The Xiao Yao Zhi Xing autonomous driving system will be offered on the Electra L7 and the model will also have the industry’s first non-stop parking assist system. Buick said the latter will detect available parking spaces in real time and then automatically park the vehicle. This eliminates the need to stop the car and manually activate the parking process.
Electra L7 Interior Revealed
Speaking of the Electra L7, the model will celebrate its official debut in September. In the meantime, Buick recently revealed its high-tech and minimalist interior.
Looking surprisingly elegant, the cabin features two-tone upholstery as well as a flowing swath of light wood trim. We can also see stylish speaker grilles, a slender full-width air vent, and a floating center console with a wireless smartphone charger.
While the upscale touches are nice, screens dominate the interior. Drivers will find a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment system, which supports a split-screen capability. They’re joined by a 50-inch panoramic augmented reality heads-up display.
Rounding out the highlights are an ambient lighting system, an AI-infused voice assistant, and a new steering wheel with four-way buttons that are designed to deliver a more intuitive experience. Buick also mentioned a Sentinel Mode, which uses cameras and radar sensors to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings.
