A 44-year-old Coquitlam man has been taken into custody following a series of incidents in South Burnaby on Friday that involved reports of a shooting and a three-vehicle crash.
The RCMP says it was called to the area of Inman Avenue and Price Street just after 10:30 p.m. after a report of a disturbance. When they arrived, they found a white sedan believed to be related to the complaint.
The car took off, and police didn’t pursue it.
Around 15 minutes later, Mounties received reports of shots fired near Wilma Street and Salisbury Avenue and then a three-vehicle crash at Edmonds Street and Griffiths Drive.
“A white sedan was located at the collision scene which appeared to be the same vehicle that earlier failed to stop for police,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj told 1130 NewsRadio.
“The driver of the white sedan was not located at that time.”
At around 11:30 p.m., police received a report that a man — thought to be associated with the white sedan — was on the roof of a residential complex near the site of the shooting reports.
“Because of the earlier shots fired, police set up containment in the area, and the residents of the building were temporarily evacuated,” Kalanj said.
Just after 1:30 a.m., the man was arrested “with no further incident.”
There is no further risk to the public, he says.
