Kia keeps setting sales records in the US, but its latest one for August 2025 marks the most cars it’s ever sold in a month. This year could end up being one for the record books as well since Americans seem unable to get enough of the brand.
Kia is facing a federal safety audit.
According to the South Korean automaker, it delivered 83,007 vehicles last month, marking the first time the company has ever surpassed 80,000 units. That total was also 10.4 percent higher than for August 2024, showing the brand is gaining momentum.
The big standouts for August were unsurprisingly the Sportage, Telluride, and K4/Forte. However, almost every model line saw a sizeable boost in sales this past August versus in the previous year, showing that people in general are turning to Kia.
For example, the Carnival minivan saw a sales bump of 29 percent. The Telluride, one of the brand’s most popular model lines, experienced a strong 19 percent increase in sales. The K5 and EV9 had sales surge 13 and 12 percent, respectively.
When you look at the numbers for the entire year through August, they’re even more impressive. By far the leader of the brand is the Sportage, which has racked up 119,587 sales versus 107,595 last year for an 11 percent bump.
The Telluride has gone from 73,055 sales last year to 84,090 so far in 2025 for an increase of 15 percent.
Just what’s drawing American car shoppers to Kia? We know the brand tends to draw in a younger crowd, thanks in part to its bold, trendy designs combined with the promise of lower prices. One might call Kia the IKEA of the automotive industry.
While many have criticized the brand for making cars that won’t last in the long run, its fans don’t seem to care. With many feeling the financial pinch, it seems they want a short-term solution.
