Tesla just launched its new Robotaxi app. With it, users can order a driverless taxi ride.
Currently, the service is available in Austin, Texas. But posts on social media from Robotaxi rides elsewhere have kept people wondering where else the autonomous cabs might show up.

Tesla's Robotaxi services launched in a small portion of Austin in June 2025. Since then, they have been increasing their coverage area there.
Only a select group of influencers and enthusiasts who had joined the waitlist had access to the Robotaxi app. But on Wednesday, Sept. 3, Tesla made the app available to all users and overnight granted access to the service to users in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Robotaxi and other autonomous car ride services like Waymo can operate in California and Texas because both states have enacted legislation allowing autonomous vehicle testing.
In New Jersey, there are no laws that explicitly ban autonomous cars, but there is also no legal framework to support driverless cars.
However, legislation is on its way. Autonomous vehicles have been a topic of conversation in the legislature.
In 2019, Trenton approved a resolution creating a task force to study autonomous vehicles and make recommendations of laws and rules to the state regarding it. And in 2024, New Jersey introduced a bill asking the Attorney General to create training courses to prepare law enforcement to interact with autonomous cars.
