HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A New Market man was killed in a car wreck on Saturday, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal single-vehicle car wreck that occurred around 8:54 p.m. on Walker Lane near Hubert Road, approximately four miles northwest of Hazel Green, in Madison County. Authorities said multiple 911 calls reported that a vehicle had struck a concrete power pole and was fully engulfed in flames.
Responding deputies were unable to approach the vehicle due to the fire. It was later confirmed that the driver died inside the vehicle.
Officials with ALEA identified the driver as 30-year-old Matthew S. Williamson.
The crash destroyed a power pole, resulting in a power outage across portions of the New Market area.
Deputies assisted with traffic control while troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the accident.
