But year-to-date figures remain weak, according to latest ACEA data
Brussels – New EU car registrations grew 7.4% year-on-year in July to 914,680 unit, while overall year-to-date figures remained weak, European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) reported 28 Aug.
For the seven-month period to end of July, new EU car registrations fell 0.7% to 6.49 million units, down from 6.53 million unit reported for the same period in 2024.
According to ACEA, the battery-electric car market share for first seven months of year stood at 15.6%, up from 12.5% last year but “still far from where it needs to be at this point in the transition.”
Hybrid-electric models, meanwhile, “continue to grow, retaining their place as the most popular power type amongst buyers,” and capturing a 34.7% share of the market.
The combined market share of petrol and diesel cars fell to 37.7%, down from 47.9% over the same period in 2024.
